CARSON CITY - Enjoy Autumn's beauty and get fit for the holiday season with a 5K run/walk on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m., in Carson City.

The Western Nevada College softball team is sponsoring the event to promote fitness and fun, and to raise funds for their upcoming 2014 season.

WNC launched the Wildcats 5K Softball Fundraiser a year ago to help pay for travel expenses to games in the spread-out Scenic West Athletic Conference. The Wildcats' conference road trips take them to Salt Lake City, Utah, Rangely, Colo., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. St. George, Utah, Henderson and Ephraim, Utah.

Head Coach Leah Wentworth said travel costs make up nearly 80 percent of the team's annual budget.

"It's a good time of the year to hold a run like this," said Wentworth. "It invites the community to have a hand in the Wildcats' success."

The out-and-back 5K from El Charro Avitia is a relatively flat beginner-to-intermediate course that is mostly paved and suitable for anyone wishing to push a baby stroller.

A $30 entry fee for adults will include a dinner buffet and a race T-shirt. Children younger than 8 will be permitted to participate for free, while kids 8 to 17 can enter for $15.

Participants are invited to an after-race dinner buffet at El Charro Avitia.

"They have been really generous and will provide certificate donations for our first-place runners," Wentworth said.

Online registration is available until November 1 at http://beta.active.com/carson-city-nv/running/wnc-softball-5k-fundraiser-2013?keywords=5k. Runners/walkers will also be able to register on race day.

Those wishing to provide additional donations to the softball program can join the Dugout Club at www.wnc.edu/athletics/softball/dugout.php.

Wildcat gear, including caps and T-shirts, and season passes will be on sale at the 5K. Race headquarters is at El Charro Avitia Mexican restaurant, 4389 S. Carson St.

"Any support is greatly appreciated. The girls have been working really hard to get ready for the season," Wentworth said.[[In-content Ad]]
