Wells Fargo Foundation awards Jacob's Well a $4,500 grant to implement youth food program

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Christmas came early for Jacob's Well Youth Center (JWYC) when Sue Vandemark from Wells Fargo Bank dropped in to share that the Wells Fargo Foundation graciously awarded Jacob's Well a $4,500 grant to support the Food Program Initiative on Dec. 11.

This donation is timely as JWYC just launched a campaign to raise $5,000 by Jan. 1 to implement a food program. This grant was awarded as a one-time request for furniture and décor to create a space specifically for the youth.

There is still a need for monetary support. Jacob's Well will be providing free meals for those 12-18 years old that come to Jacob's Well Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Youth are currently testing different varieties of JA Foodservice Locker Mates, which meet all the federal and state nutritional guidelines. It will cost the youth center about $10,000 to feed 325-35 youth three times a week for a year.

If you are in a position to donate or interested in learning more about this worthy initiative please visit, www.jwyc.org or email Jessica Arky, Jessica@jwyc.org.

Jacob's Well is grateful to the Wells Fargo Foundation and the businesses in the Battle Mountain community that support the youth center.

"We are proud to be Battle Mountain's community bank," said Wells Fargo Store Manager Susan Vandemark. "By providing funds to important community organizations like Jacob's Well Youth Center, Wells Fargo is truly making Battle Mountain a great place to call home."

Jesse Gauthier, the new JWYC board of director's president, said, "I hope that enough local businesses and community members support this initiative and the youth center more generally to expand and continue offering youth services."

Gauthier stepped into his new role on Dec. 1. He is a Battle Mountain native, alumnus of Battle Mountain High School and employed at Newmont.

Mike Coman, former president of the board, announced his resignation in late October. Jacob's Well Youth Center's board members and volunteers appreciate Mike's contributions and wish him the very best.

Jacob's Well Youth Center is a faith-based nonprofit organization that offers a safe place for teens 12-18 years old in the Battle Mountain community.

As a volunteer run organization, we strive to keep our doors open every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information visit www.jwyc.org.
