The local TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) club raised enough money to purchase 43 bags of groceries destined for the Winnemucca Food Bank. TOPS members contributed $421 to Raley's Food for Families holiday food drive, and TOPS members Marie Bidart and Alice Brinkerhoff presented store director Russ McBroome with a check on Tuesday morning.
Raley's converts the donated funds to grocery bags full of non-perishable food, and this year, Raley's included coupons for fresh food on the bags. The coupons provide those in need with bags of potatoes and carrots, milk and bananas - all at no charge.
McBroome said that in one month, from Nov. 7 to Dec. 7, Winnemuccans and Raley's had donated 707 bags of groceries to the food bank.
Brinkerhoff said the group raised the money through individual contributions.[[In-content Ad]]
