WDVS to Host the Annual Natasha Eden Memorial Try-athlon

WINNEMUCCA - On Saturday, Sept. 29, Winnemucca Domestic Violence Services will host the annual Natasha Eden Memorial Try-athlon at Vesco Park from 7:30 a.m. to 1p.m. Each year, WDVS hosts this event through the support of community sponsors to remember Natasha Eden and all the other community members who have lost their lives or lost a loved one to domestic violence.

Natasha was murdered by her estranged husband in front of their children in 2005. Before shooting and killing himself, he also shot Natasha's mother six times; fortunately, she survived. That fateful day in Winnemucca, three children lost their mother, parents lost a daughter, siblings lost a sister and friends lost someone they cared about. Domestic violence changed their lives forever.

The annual try-athlon is hosted to not only increase awareness of domestic violence within the community, but also to share information with those seeking resources for themselves.

The try-athlon is an event that encourages participants to come out and try. Try one event or try all 3, try as an individual or try as a team. The course includes a 500-yard swim in the city pool, 16-mile bike through town, and 2-mile run/walk around Vesco Park.

Community members are encouraged to join this family event for the morning. The event will include live music, award ceremony, and give-aways.

To register for this free event or to become a community sponsor, visit the WDVS office at 50 A Melarkey St. or contact the office directly at 775-625-1313. You can also find a registration table at the Winnemucca Convention Center during the Aug. 25 wine walk. All proceeds from this event will be used for the WDVS Scholarship Fund and direct client services.

WDVS is also in need of volunteers for this event. To support Winnemucca Domestic Violence Services with your time, contact the WDVS office directly.
