Battle Mountain's 2013-14 water and sewer improvement project is slated to get underway this week. The project is scheduled to wrap up in June barring unforeseen circumstances, said Lander County Engineer Mark Brethauer, who is overseeing the project.
The streets that will undergo work are Willow, Tule, Humboldt, Reese, Galena, Mountain, Broad, Front, First, Second and Third.
Residents in the area may experience minor travel inconveniences during the project and may also have temporary interruptions to their water service while the new mains and water meters are installed, Brethauer said.
Each resident will be notified 24 hours in advance and the water should only be out of service for no more than four hours, he added. Work is scheduled for week days.
"We apologize for any inconveniences there may be during the construction period but the work should proceed fairly rapidly and anyone who may be having any problems during the construction phase is welcome to call my office so we can help resolve those problems," Brethauer said.
Everything is proceeding according to schedule, said Brethauer. The project consists of the installation of 4,000 feet of new water line and 6,000 feet of new sewer main line.
It will include underground exploration to locate and verify the size, material, exact location and depth of existing utilities to help prevent any conflicts with other utilities, Brethauer said.
The bid was awarded to Hunewill Construction for $1.5 million at the Feb. 13 Lander County Commission meeting.
A pre-bid meeting was held at the beginning of January and bids were opened Jan. 15. There were seven companies that submitted bids. Hunewill was the low bidder.
Last fall saw the completion of another water and sewer project that consisted of installing approximately 3,100 feet of new water line and 3,000 feet of new sewer main at a cost of around $640,000. Hunewill did that project as well.
The county is in the budget process to determine whether funding will be available for future water and sewer replacement projects.[[In-content Ad]]
