WINNEMUCCA - After a 13-day break with the Thanksgiving holiday, the Winnemucca Junior High School eighth-grade boys basketball team continued its dominance of the Tri-County League.
The Warriors (9-5 overall, 4-0 Tri-County) was back on the floor on Friday, Nov. 30 in Battle Mountain, and breezed to a 30-6 win over the home standing Shorthorns, and a 35-14 victory over Pershing County.
Winnemucca has won seven of its last eight games after starting the season at 2-4.
"The kids are playing well right now," said WJHS eighth-grade coach K.C. Kracaw. "We are playing good defense and are improving on offense."
Jed Teichert scored all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter to lead the Warriors against Battle Mountain. Jacob Hernandez picked up five of his nine points in the first six minutes of play as Winnemucca was never threatened.
Joe Taylor added five points and Travis Hardy, Brady Lange and Bryan Ramos each had two points.
Hernandez and Teichert dominated Pershing County, with Hernandez outscoring the Colts by himself with 16 points. Teichert added 13 points for Winnemucca.
Taylor and Ramos were the only other Warrior players to score with four and two points, respectively.
Winnemucca plays at home for the final time this season when they host the Tri-County League at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors tip off with Pershing County at 10 a.m., and Battle Mountain at 1 p.m.
