WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Junior High School wrestling team wrapped up its season this past Saturday at the Tah-Neva championships in Fallon.
The eighth-grade squad finished a close second to Carson City and had four individual champions. Fallon finished third and Battle Mountain fourth.
Trase Bell, Michael Venzor, Joe Mullis and Shaun Mentaberry all claimed individual titles, with Mentaberry being named one of the outstanding wrestlers.
Austin Robinson and Nate Nelson placed second, Jared Carrica was third and Levi Lloyd was fourth. Jordan Diaz, Eric White, Micah Sommers and Chris Karchella also wrestled but did not place.
The Winnemucca seventh graders finished fifth, as Battle Mountain beat out Yerington for the team championship. Fernley and Fallon were third and fourth, respectively.
Quint Bell and Seth Duncan earned first-place honors for the Warriors, while Seth Hornbarger and Nathan Larabee each finished third. Ryan Johnson and Seth Scott placed fourth and Nathan Chapman, GW Coleman, Jackson Brown and Ryan Bourland competed but did not place.
"The kids improved quite a bit from the start of the season to the championships," said WJHS coach Brant Corak. "We had a chance to win the eighth-grade championship but just came up a little short."
