WINNEMUCCA - Walmart honors teacher achievement annually, and this year it was French Ford Middle School teachers' turn. A special assembly was held on Oct. 14 at FFMS to celebrate with both staff and students alike.
Heather Gale, spokesperson for the Winnemucca Walmart, said that every year Walmart stores across the nation have their employees choose a school in each locale to honor teachers who often use their own funds to purchase school supplies. Gale said that the event is called the Walmart Teacher Rewards Program.
Gale stated that this is the second year the local Walmart has participated in the event.
Gale said that she and Mikki Ingle, also a Walmart employee, brought 10 - $100 Walmart gift cards, a cake and leftover school supplies to French Ford. Principal Robert Lindsay then drew 10 teachers' names from a hat for the gift cards.
The teachers who received the gift cards included Maryjo Dufurrena, Mitzi Storm, Kathi Kuretich, K.C. Harrison, Mike Clark, Dixie Southwick, Katie Donovan, Tamara McCord, Brent Riemersma and Dennis Dockter.
