'Walk N Wag' to be held at Winnemucca Community Garden

The event will take place on Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m. The start and end place is the Winnemucca Community Garden, located at 151 W. McArthur Ave., at the intersection of Melarkey and McArthur streets and across the street from Sonoma Heights Elementary School.

The walk will be approximately two miles. The participation fee is $20 per registrant and can include more than one dog per registrant. Refreshments for all (dogs too) will be served after the walk at the garden.

The Community Garden will donate half of all proceeds to the City of Winnemucca, Humboldt County Animal Shelter, to use the funds as needed. The Community Garden will receive half of the proceeds for hosting and organizing the event.

There will be adoptable animals from the shelter on site and hopefully participating in the walk as well. In addition to raising funds for the shelter and garden, they are seeking donations for dog treats, bags for dog waste and bottled water.

Local groomers are willing to participate, too. Sugie and Tina of R C Pet Grooming will be onsite for complimentary nail clipping. They will be available for an hour after the walk. All breeds are welcome. Judy of Posh Pets, along with The Power Paws 4H Dog Club, will be doing demonstrations of agility and provide an opportunity for dogs to test their agility immediately following the walk. Judy will even have wading pools, just in case it is hot out that day! There is no cost for these fun-filled activities. In addition, Judy and the 4H Dog Club are working to establish a local dog park. This is a great opportunity to come out, talk with them and find out how to support this effort.

Registration sign-ups will be held on various days and at various locations around town. Forms can also be obtained by stopping by the office at 640 Melarkey St., Suite 2, or at http://www.winnemucca-community-garden.org.

For persons out of town wanting to participate, please feel free to contact the office at (775) 623-2333 with questions. Participants will also be able to register at the garden the morning of the event. For those registering the morning of the event, please plan to arrive a few minutes early.

Participants should be prepared to walk in inclement weather, wearing the appropriate clothing, foot and rain gear. Since this is intended to be an annual event, it is imperative that dogs remain on a leash and are controlled at all times by the participant, and that dog owners clean up after their dogs both at the Community Garden and during the walk
