Volunteering is rewarding

Dear Editor:

For many years I have enjoyed the weekly opinion articles submitted by Roy Bale, "Postcards from Texas" and Tom Stoker's historic tales of Lovelock and Pershing County. Lately I have had the pleasure of "DesertTown Reflections" by Dan O'Connor too.

I enjoyed both articles (July 31 issue) regarding volunteering - Roy Bale's regarding the coaching and Dan O'Connor's volunteering here in Lovelock. I hope both articles bring more volunteers.

Coaching youth sports is a very hard but rewarding job. Hopefully more will take this on, and hopefully no parents interfere with their task.

Volunteers at the county level with seniors, hospital, library, museum, etc. are challenging and take a certain type of person. Not only is it rewarding, but it gives each volunteer a chance to get to know new folks at that facility.

Chatting with folks and listening to them gain both volunteer and participant, a large amount of knowledge and companionship. Over the last nine years, as a volunteer, I have gotten to know some very interesting and colorful people. I encourage more folks to volunteer.

Thanks, Dan and Roy for your weekly opinions. I look forward to more.

Judy Osmun
