Veteran supports sheriff's stand on Second Amendment

Editor: The letter that Sheriff Ed Kilgore wrote (Humboldt Sun, Jan. 22-24) hits home with me and my family. We stand and support his decision in protecting us from the silly rules that the politicians in the White House insist in cramming down us. We have only lived in Winnemucca for a few years and Nevada for that matter, but the pride we have in our small town is great, and to have a Sheriff like Mr. Kilgore makes it even a greater pride. I served in the Army for seven years, the National Guard for six years and the Air National guard for 1.5 years. I served with pride and honor for our great country and my family. I served a tour in Iraq during my time in the military with honor. I saw firsthand what it was like in Iraq with people that hated you so bad they wanted to kill you for being an American - and the flip side, the ones that loved you so much for being an American and helping them out. We fought for our lives a few times and all came home alive. With this being said, I served to uphold the Constitution and not watch it get taken away. I will stand next to the Sheriff Ed Kilgore for his decision to uphold the Constitution. It has taken a brave man to do this and I have pride and honor in him for doing it. On the other side, you have people like Vickie Rock (Guest opinion, Humboldt Sun, Jan. 22-24) who think Kilgore wants to be a king? For what? Standing up for the Constitution for the people? What if they took away the right of free speech? She stated that Sheriff Kilgore needs to leave his opinion at the front door of his office and do his job. His job is to protect the citizens of Humboldt County, despite whoever is attacking us. Right now, it's Washington that is attacking us and our rights. I guess my big thing is if Sheriff Kilgore needs to leave his opinion at the front door, then maybe Vickie should also. She should report the news and not put in her personal spin and cram it down our throat. It is our right under the Constitution to own firearms. Sheriff Kilgore sees that right being taken away and has chosen to stand up and say, "not here not now, not on my watch." For doing that I will forever be a proud citizen of Winnemucca and this great state of Nevada. Vickie Rock needs to leave her opinion at the front door and report only the news and nothing but the news without her spin on it. Vickie needs to be educated on firearms before she writes about it. You need to have a special permit to own a fully automatic weapon. Not just the average Joe can get one. An AK-47 that a resident of Nevada owns in not a fully automatic weapon. It's a semi-automatic weapon. Get the facts straight. Car accidents kill more people every year than guns do. Let's go after the auto industry. Fast food is bad for you, so let's go after them. Abortion is killing thousands of babies every year - why are they allowed to do that? Because we live in a free country, and I would like it to stay that way - for me, my kids, my future grandkids and every American alive today. Mr. Sheriff Ed Kilgore, I, my family, and my friends stand with you and the letter you sent to the Vice President of the United States. Good job, Sir. Rusty L. Leflar Winnemucca[[In-content Ad]]
