WINNEMUCCA -One of California's most versatile musicians will make his way to Winnemucca this August to headline "Fifties Fever" 2012.
Dave Badilla, a hugely talented musician and music teacher, DJ and music entrepreneur will bring his one-man show to Winnemucca's annual classic car celebration, set for Friday, August 3, through Sunday, August 5.
Fifties Fever originated as the Winnemucca branch of Reno's hugely successful Hot August Nights. Fourteen years ago, local organizers split from Hot August Nights to form Fifties Fever-and Winnemucca's offering hasn't skipped a beat in attendance, imagination or fun.
The Fifties Fever weekend will include everything from great show 'n' shines to kid contests, street drags, a craft fair, poker run, and a free play giveaway from the Model T Resort Casino.
Sunday, Dave Badilla will headline the afternoon activities planned for Nixon Park during a free concert from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Badilla promises a diverse and fun show as he moves fluidly from singing and playing guitar to grabbing the bass, sometimes the harmonica and occasionally playing a few keyboard parts.
Audience members will enjoy a mix of artists such as Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Garth Brooks, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eddie Money, Merle Haggard, James Brown, The Eagles, and Santana, as well as songs by newer artists such as Gnarls Barkley, 3 Doors Down, and Los Lonely Boys.
Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Darrel Field said local audiences can expect a very fun and very energetic show Sunday.
"Everyone knows and loves these songs," he said. "With Dave's high energy and versatility, he will totally win the audience over."
The Dave Badilla performance is free to the public. For more information or for a full schedule of the weekend's events, log on to www.fifties-fever.com or contact the Winnemucca Convention Center and Visitors Authority at (775) 623-5071, ext. 102 or toll-free at (800) 962-2638.
