The Lowry High School volleyball team was rewarded in a big way for its best season since 2006.
The Lady Bucks finished the year 27-4 overall and 14-2 in the Division I-A North, finishing second in the league.
Junior Juliana Velasco and senior Auri Criddle were named to the Division I-A North first team for their play during the year. Velasco was chosen as a middle blocker and Criddle as a setter. The selections are made by the nine coaches in the league
Lowry head coach Megan Allen was named Coach of the Year, in her second season with the Lady Bucks.
Elko's Kelsie Gailey was named the Player of the Year. Elko's Jill Wright and Desirea Danner were named to the first team, along with Churchill County's Evan Matheson and Truckee's Maia Dvoracek.
Sierra Thiede and Jillian Albright, a pair of juniors, were named to the second team. They were joined by Dayton's Kaylee Turner and Cheyanne Strong, Sparks' Driftwind Nau, Truckee's Anais Fay and Elko's Olivia Howe.
Lowry's Meg Montero, Ashlee Barron and Darion Iturriaga were selected to the honorable mention squad.
That group also included Spring Creek's Kaitlin Wirts, Kaylee Snow, Rashay Williams and Maddie Petersen, Fernley's Lynsee Ferretto and Brickell Washburn, Truckee's Taylor Stevens, Tori Simpson and Madison Haley, Sparks' Marisa Coleman, Nina Cuadra, Michelle Santos and Areli Hernandez, Churchill County's Zoey Swisher, Kyla Kincaid and Whitney Skabelund, Elko's Josalynn Harris and Sabrina Welch, Dayton's Rachel Hadley and Shalia Powell and South Tahoe's Kendhyl Delacour.
The all-state teams from the north were selected as well and Velasco was named to the first team. She was joined by Gailey and Wright.
Criddle was chosen to the second team, along with Matheson, Dvoracek and Danner.
Faith Lutheran's Amy Fisher was named the Division I-A Coach of the Year. The Crusaders won their second straight state championship, beating Sierra Vista this past Saturday in Reno.[[In-content Ad]]
