WINNEMUCCA - Tim Vaughan was recently chosen as RSVP's field representative for Humboldt County, according to Susan Haas, RSVP program director.
"Tim brings a wealth of experience to the program" said Haas, "with a background in law enforcement and as a proactive volunteer for animal rescue groups. His organizational skills, leadership ability and experience, along with his longstanding service to Humboldt County, allows him to build relationships and create partnerships and makes him a wonderful representative of RSVP for the Humboldt County community in Winnemucca."
RSVP serves senior citizens in need of assistance in Winnemucca by providing volunteers who utilize its flagship programs such the Home Companion, Resistance Exercise Training and Respite programs, which are designed to extend the time seniors can remain independent in their own homes, rather than be prematurely institutionalized.
"From an early age my parents taught me that it is important to care for your community, through volunteer service," Vaughan said. "I've been a volunteer with many organizations over my life. Today, I look forward to serving Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program as a field representative for two reasons. First, to help seniors to stay independently in their own homes; second, to share the many volunteer opportunities RSVP affords our community with those who'd like to make Winnemucca and Humboldt County just a little bit better."
"As a resident of Humboldt County for almost 10 years, I have been involved with the considerable growth in the community and have a unique perspective regarding the needs of senior citizens and the community as a whole," he added. "Having worked with non-profit organizations in the past, I have the benefit of understanding how to build relationships and consensus in order to provide services to frail homebound senior citizens. I am looking forward to working with volunteers and clients. Our mission is to bring basic needs services such as transportation, companionship and respite care as well as resistance exercise training to the residents of Winnemucca and to assist them to remain independent and in their own homes. Additionally, volunteers who become active within their community by contributing meaningful service are provided with the considerable benefits of volunteering such as living a longer, healthier, more fulfilling life. So get active, get busy. Do something truly meaningful. When seniors are allowed to remain in their own homes they are able to retain their dignity and live a healthier, happier existence."
