WINNEMUCCA - USDA Undersecretary Dallas Tonsager met with 25 Winnemucca area ranchers and farmers Aug. 8 to talk about their problems with drought and fire.

State Farm Service Agency Director Clint Koble and USDA Rural Development State Director Sarah Adler were there to provide state background on the issues.

Ranchers said that the drought is causing a multitude of problems, and that with BLM shortening permits, and water lacking for stock, many will be forced to sell earlier than usual.

FSA staff from the Winnemucca office were available to offer information on emergency drought funding that may be available. Contact the FSA office for more information.

Tonsager agreed to take ranchers concerns about wild horse management back to Washington, D.C., to share with his boss, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack.
