Underground miner found unconscious died April 28

Cause of death is still under investigation

An underground miner for the Midas mine was found unconscious and unresponsive April 28 around 11:30 a.m.; he was later pronounced dead at Humboldt General Hospital.

According to Klondex Mines CEO Paul Huet, emergency response was immediately dispatched to the miner's underground location and he was taken to the surface for advanced care; he was later pronounced deceased by HGH. Huet said as of last week the cause of death is unknown, but said the company is "totally engaged with authorities to understand how the tragedy occurred."

Huet said the miner's death is a huge loss for the Klondex community and a serious time for the company.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," he said.

Huet said the company is working with all groups to determine what happened to cause the miner's death and he is awaiting more information.

"It's unclear how the tragedy occurred," he said.

Huet said he was unable to release the name of the deceased.
