Two vaccine clinics in December at animal shelter

LOVELOCK - Veterinarian services could again be available locally if there's enough demand, according to the city's animal control officer, Sheri Crim.

Reno veterinarian Dr. Skyler Hiibel will hold two animal vaccination clinics on Dec. 15 and Dec. 27 at the animal shelter at 9 a.m. and may return to Lovelock two to three times per month to provide other vet care.

The clinics will offer rabies vaccines required to license all dogs by the first of the year as mandated by city ordinance, Crim said. The rabies shots are $17 and other shots will be available, including parvo, rattlesnake and bordetella vaccinations.

On Monday, Crim posted fliers around town stating that Hiibel is willing to travel to Lovelock on a regular schedule if the demand is here. Crim said she's hoping a good turnout by animal owners at the two upcoming vaccination clinics will demonstrate to Dr. Hiibel the community's need for her services.

"She's coming from Reno to do vaccinations in December out at the animal shelter and then we'll go from there," Crim said. "She also does livestock, she does spay/neuter surgeries and everything so if we can get her enough business hopefully she'll come here two to three times a month. I'm hoping it's a good turnout for her."

"We need spay /neuter, we need the surgeries and the livestock services," Crim said. "There are just a lot of things to do in this small town so I'm hoping she comes. We're working on finding a facility for her. Right now, she'll do vaccinations at the shelter."

Limited vet services, such as vaccinations, euthanasia and minor surgery, are still sometimes available from Dr. Nan Stovall of Lovelock. She retired two years ago after serving the community for 30 years as a full-time veterinarian.
