The most recent Humboldt County Commission and Winnemucca City Council meetings resulted in two new Humboldt Regional Planning Commission members; one city representative and one county representative.
Ken Hladek was appointed by the county commissioners.
Hladek is a 10-year resident of the county. He has worked with several non-profit organizations in his time locally including United Way, Humboldt Volunteer Hospice and the Domestic Violence Shelter.
Hladek noted he has been present at many county commission and planning commission meetings and has become familiar with the process and a number of the issues discussed. His appointment passed despite opposition from Marlene Brissenden and Jim French.
Although Brissenden did not give a reason for her opposition, she said she would have liked to have an opportunity to interview the other applicant. French did not give a reason for his opposition.
The other applicant for the county position did not attend the meeting. He had been sent notice of the meeting, and County Administrator Bill Deist called the contact number he'd given, but was unable to reach him and the commissioners didn't have an opportunity to interview him.
Hladek's appointment is for two years.
The city council appointed Brad Bauman, the only person to apply as a city representative, to the planning commission. Bauman has worked for Nevada Department of Wildlife as a fisheries biologist for the past 14 years.
In his letter of interest, Bauman said he'd been a permanent resident of Winnemucca for 10 years, and Nevada for over 20 years. He also mentioned service as a board member on several non-profit organizations based in Humboldt County.
He wasn't present at the city council meeting for an interview, but both Mayor Di An Putnam and councilman Doug Cain said they knew him and could recommend him for the position.
Jean Kinney is also a relatively recent appointment to the seven-member planning commission, as is Dave Mendiola, making a majority of new planning commission members. Longer-serving members include Ray Olsen, Lewis Trout and Vickie Rock.[[In-content Ad]]
