MISSOULA, Mont. - Two Nevadans are among the scores of hunters whose recent trophies will be honored as symbols of America's continuing successes in wildlife conservation.
The trophies are part of a public exhibition planned as part of the Boone and Crockett Club's 28th Big Game Awards, July 17-20, at the Reno Ballroom, Silver Legacy Resort and Casino, in Reno.
About 135 top five trophies, one new world's record and records-book specimens taken by hunters age 16 and under, most of which were entered into Boone and Crockett records in just the past three years, will be featured in the display.
The public is welcome to attend the event ($5 daily admission or $10 daily family pass), which also will include seminars by hunting and conservation authorities as well as a benefit auction.
"Boone and Crockett began hosting public exhibitions of big game trophies in 1947," said Club President Bill Demmer. "But these aren't just large specimens to quicken the pulse of hunters. They also have biological significance. Trophies are proof of well-managed habitats and populations, even as cities sprawl and land uses change. These animals symbolize the historic and ongoing success of America's unique hunter-led, hunter-funded conservation system - a system that continues to benefit all citizens who appreciate wildlife and wild places."
Nevada hunters invited and confirmed as participants in the exhibition:
Among top five trophies, Lorin Wilkin's mule deer, ranked No. 4 all-time Nevada. The hunt location was Lincoln County and the year was 2012.
In the youth trophies, Kylie Sondermann's non-typical mule deer, ranked No. 32 all-time Nevada, was taken in 2012 in Lander County.
In addition to the daytime events, registered attendees can enjoy evening raffles, an auction featuring hunts in top trophy regions across the continent and evening awards banquets and presentations.
