Two men arraigned for May motorcycle wreck

WINNEMUCCA - Trevor Otto Heitman and Christian Huber, who were arrested on Aug. 6 following a motorcycle wreck on May 9 that left them and two passengers injured, pleaded guilty Monday to reckless driving causing substantial bodily harm, a category B felony.

In both cases, both sides have agreed to recommend a diversion program at the time of sentencing, which, if successfully completed, would allow the defendants to withdraw their guilty pleas.

Huber told Sixth Judicial District Judge Michael Montero at the arraignment Monday that he "drank alcohol and rode (his) Harley."

"I shouldn't have been driving," Huber said. "I had a passenger and she was injured."

Along the same lines, Heitman told Judge Montero that he had "operated a motorcycle with a passenger without regard for safety."

The lead motorcycle, operated by Heitman, stopped in the travel lane and was struck by the rear vehicle, which was operated by Huber.

According to a Winnemucca Police Department news release, both motorcycles were laid over and all riders were ejected. None of the riders were wearing helmets.

According to court documents, the accident was alcohol-related.

Sentencing is set for March 4 at 9:30 a.m. for Huber and 9:45 a.m. for Heitman.

In other Sixth Judicial District Court cases:

• Nicholas Henry Holley, who was arrested in October on suspicion of shooting at a victim on the front porch of a house, pleaded guilty Monday to the amended charges of discharging a firearm at or into a structure and assault with a deadly weapon. Holley allegedly fled the scene at a high speed and was later picked up at a store on Grass Valley Road by local law enforcement. Holley is currently in custody and bail is set at $140,000. Sentencing is set for March 4 at 1:30 p.m.
