Two injured in July 22 crashes One person suffers serious head injury

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Two area crashes on Interstate 80 on July 22 injured two people, one with serious head injuries, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

The first crash happened at 2:30 p.m., about 10 miles east of Battle Mountain.

Sandhyn Ashok, 46, of South Jordan, Utah, was driving eastbound in a 2009 gray Honda Civic with two passengers when he lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to rotate, according to NHP Lt. Roy Baughman. It then overturned and came to rest on its top in the dirt median.

Driver inattention could have been a contributing factor in the crash, said Baughman. Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.

All three were transported by ambulance to Battle Mountain General Hospital.

Sandhyn Ashok received a minor head injury. Passenger Angelina Ashok, 19, of South Jordan, Utah, suffered a serious head injury. A second passenger, Xavier Ashok, 51, also of South Jordan, was transported to the hospital but did not report any injuries.

The second accident happened at 8:10 p.m. in Eureka County at the Dunphy Exit, about 20 miles east of Battle Mountain.

According to Baughman, Timothy Morris, 52, of Union City, Tenn., was driving a 2002 white Chevy Malibu when he fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into the median. His vehicle struck a small hill, became airborne and came to rest on its wheels.

Morris was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, said Baughman.
