WINNEMUCCA - A local gold mine was certainly "good as gold" recently to the local hospice organization.
Last month, employees from the Turquoise Ridge Mine surprised staff at the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Shop with a truckload of goods that quickly translated into profit for the local nonprofit.
"They showed up with several loads of furniture and household items to donate to the thrift store," said HVH Executive Director Sherry Smith of the Turquoise Ridge crew.
"The items were in demand and selling before most of them could actually even be brought into the store," she said.
Smith added, "We would like to give a big thank you to Turquoise Ridge for thinking of Humboldt Volunteer Hospice and the Frugal Flamingo."
Smith said as a nonprofit organization, the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is totally dependent on the Frugal Flamingo's income to carry out its mission of honoring and supporting individuals in the Humboldt County community who are suffering from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness.
All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services.
"So when we receive a donation like that, which we can then turn around and sell for a nice profit, it just makes us feel so thankful," she said.
She added, "This is one more generous donation to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our patients. We sincerely thank Turquoise Ridge for their kindness."
