Truckee win streak ends at 41 games

WINNEMUCCA - The nation's fourth-longest winning streak in high school football is over.

Truckee, the three time Division I-A Nevada state champion, and a winner of 41 games in a row, saw that streak end Saturday with a 7-0 loss to Fernley.

The Wolverines were looking to break the Nevada 11-man record for consecutive wins, but will remain tied with The Meadows, who also won 41 games in a row from 1998-2001.

Pahranagat Valley (Alamo), which plays 8-man football, has a current win streak of 47 games. That streak is the longest in Nevada history.

Fernley, which has won its last five games following a season-opening overtime loss, scored the game's only touchdown with 1:57 left in the fourth quarter. It is the first time since 2007 that Truckee has been shut out in a game.

One of three Truckee turnovers - a fumble at its 41-yard line - set up the only score, a 14-yard run by Skylar Williams. Fernley stopped Truckee's final drive with an interception at the 2-yard line by Beau Hogan.
