Trout Unlimited seeks volunteers to help with reseeding

Group to work on area burned by Holloway fire Oct. 20

WINNEMUCCA - The Sagebrush Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Nevada Dept. of Wildlife are partnering on a conservation project to rehabilitate two streams in the McDermitt Creek watershed. This area was severely damaged by the Holloway Fire during the summer of 2012. The Oct. 20 project will focus on reseeding riparian species and installing streambank stabilization measures to reduce post-fire erosion.

The Sagebrush Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Nevada Dept. of Wildlife will be planting willows, reseeding grasses, and installing streambank stabilization along two streams that were severely damaged in the Holloway Fire. The Holloway Fire burned nearly 460,000 acres in Nevada and Oregon.

Those interested in helping during the day should contact Matt Maples of the Sagebrush Trout Unlimited chapter by calling (775) 771-9135, or via email at: mmaples@sagebrushtu.org. Carpools will be available from Winnemucca and Reno. Lunch will be provided. For more information about the Sagebrush Trout Unlimited chapter, visit them online at www.sagebrushtu.org.
