Trend Setters finish up season in California

The Trend Setters Club Volleyball traveled to the Bay Area on consecutive weekends to compete in its last two events.

On May 18, the team competed in a single-day tournament in Concord, Calif. They won five consecutive matches to take first place in an 11- team field.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the team traveled to San Mateo, Calif., to compete in the three-day Bayview Classic Tournament along with 60 other teams.

The Trend Setters made history by winning all three pool play matches on day one of the event. In doing so, the team moved into the highest possible pool on day two.

The Trend Setters found itself competing on court No. 1 with the absolute best teams in the region. Court No. 1 proved to be just as exciting and challenging as its reputation promised.

The Trend Setters won its first match against Stockton Elite Black in three sets (27-25, 17-25, 15-6). In matches two and three, the Trend Setters competed in the most impressive contests of its 41-match season and its entire three year history. The team battled for nearly two hours against Blackout and eventually lost in three sets (25-20, 26-28, 13-15). The team played Red Rock Crimson immediately afterward. Despite a great effort against another very strong team, the Trend Setters saw their great day on Court No. 1 come to an end in two competitive sets (25-14, 25-20).

On day three, the team lost the first match of bracketed play to Payes Elite Black then bounced back to defeat Club Kalani Purple to finish third in their bracket.

"During its third year of club competition, the Trend Setters traveled over 4,000 miles from January until May," said coach May Kay Ports. "They achieved a win-loss record of 27-14. Most importantly, they learned the values of commitment, dedication and teamwork. Congratulations on a remarkable season."
