An African spurred tortoise, native to the Sahara region of Africa, wandered into Grass Valley resident Penny Gean Beck's yard on Saturday morning and headed through her garage. Beck, right, said the young tortoise was making a beeline for the field across the street from her house. She said that the tortoise was somewhere around 7-10 pounds and didn't seem afraid of her at all; in fact, when she picked the tortoise up and rubbed his belly, he stuck his neck out and seemed to enjoy it. Beck said that she had her husband carry the tortoise to his desired destination, because she didn't want it to get run over by a car, and he took off toward the mountains headed east.[[In-content Ad]]
