Once or twice a year, for the past 25 years, my family stays in Winnemucca as we travel between Idaho and California. We always enjoy your clean, cheerful town with its delicious food and lovely Catholic church. I have had world-class meals at The Griddle and the old San Fermin.
This Monday, July 23, your town further endeared itself to us. Our car got stuck on the sandy shoulder by the dunes north of town. It was just me and a carload of teenagers, but before we could even panic two separate Good Samaritans stopped to help. One had a sturdy chain and a strong pickup, and the other had the know-how and willingness to hook us up. We were free in a jiffy.
Thank you to those kind strangers, one female, one male.
And we look forward to our next visit.
