The Lowry High School track and field team jumped into its first major invitational this past Saturday at the Fallon Elks Invitational.
The Buckaroo girls finished eighth as a team with 42 points as Douglas won the team title with 139 points. McQueen was second at 106 and Spring Creek was third with 99 points. Yerington (58) and Churchill County (47) rounded out the top five.
The Lowry boys were 17th with five points. McQueen took home the team championship with 128 points, while Douglas was second at 93. Churchill County (87), Dayton (82) and Spring Creek (72) finished out the top five.
Rachel Sigurdson led the Buckaroo girls with a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8 feet. In addition, Sigurdson placed ninth in the high jump at 4-6.
Kenadee Jeppsen posted a second-place finish in the high jump at 4-10, 12th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 56.28 and the freshman was 16th in the 400 meters in a time of 1 minute, 9.09 seconds. After winning the prelimaries in the 100-meter hurdles, Auri Criddle was third in the final at 17.19. Churchill County's Elena Murray won with a time of 16.82. Criddle also placed eighth in the 200 meters at 29.16 and was part of the 4x100 relay that finished second in a time of 54.07, along with Jillian Albright, Audrey Snow and Madison Montero.
Albright finished fourth in the pole at 7-0, Montero placed ninth in the pole vault at 6-6 and 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.67. Dani Ricker turned in an eighth-place performance in the high jump, as she cleared 4-8. In addition, Ricker finished 11th in the triple jump at 28-11.50 and 17th in the long jump with a mark of 13-1.50.
Alondra Duenas was 16th in the 800 meters in a time of 3:00.10 and Cindy Bravo was 22nd (3:17.90) and Nani Ramirez was 24th (3:26).
On the boys side, Sergio Castaneda posted a sixth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 134-6 and was eighth in the shot put at 43-8. Jeremiah Teichert placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.34 and the senior was 19th in the pole vault, clearing 9-0.
Dylan Riddle finished 13th in the 200 meters in a time of 24.64 and Drake Kavanaugh was 14th in the discus with a throw of 111-4 and 23rd in the shot put at 35-3. Hayden Jeppsen was 19th in the 3,200 meters in a time of 10:18.90 and Kelvin Meza was 19th in the 400 meters at 59.17.
On March 28, freshmen and sophomores for the Buckaroos traveled to Reno to compete in the Sierra League Invitational at Galena High School.
Hayley Hall finished third in the pole vault, as she cleared the bar at 7-6, while Alexis Allen was sixth in the 800 meters (3:09.51) and the 1,600 meters (6:44.12)
Charice Brown finished seventh in the 1,600 meters in a time of 6:56.93 and was seventh in the 800 meters (3:16.60) and Savannah Rorex placed ninth in the 400 meters (1:18.21) and 10th in the 800 meters (3:22.51).
Shelby Stephenson placed ninth in the shot put with a toss of 21-6.50, Hallie Caratzola was 12th in the long jump at 11-8, Jaris Dunyon was 12th in the 100-meter hurdles at 23.64 and Edith Rosas finished 13th in the 1,600 meters at 7:29.92.
For the boys, Jared Carrica was second in the shot put with a throw of 44-4.50 and Kobe Fitzpatrick was fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:29.70, fifth in the 1,600 meters (5:26.75) and 14th in the 400 meters (1:02.50).
Omar Aranjo was sixth in the 3,200 meters in a time of 12:30, Jonathan Madrid was eighth (12:38), Chris Kearns 10th (13:03), Chase McAllister 11th (13:08) and Liam Gallups 14th (14:10).
Jed Teichert finished 10th in the 400 meters at 1:01.30 and was 15th in the high jump with a mark of 4-8. Zach White placed 12th in the high jump at 4-10 and Devin Dowd was 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.61.
Lowry is off this weekend and returns to action April 12 for the Elko Invitational.[[In-content Ad]]
