Winds blew hard in the Rye Patch area and throughout Pershing County last week. In Rye Patch a shed was reportedly blown down and Judy Mosby's motorcycle was blown over. "Not the way one likes to see their motorcycle," Mosby said. According to National Weather Service Reno Meteorologist Scott McGuire, the winds topped 40 mph in Rye Patch beginning Nov. 30 through the early morning hours of Dec. 2. Although these speeds do not sound all that high for the area, McGuire said that the winds came from north-northeast about 100 degrees opposite of the usual winter storm the area experiences from the south-southwest . "We find that when the winds come from the opposite direction than usual there is more wind damage than normal," McGuire said.
