After all the campaigning and Candidate's Nights, the District 6 judge candidates Jim Shirley and Todd Plimpton both come across as honorable and knowledgeable men. Shirley seems maybe more compassionate, Plimpton maybe more forceful. Thing is, those shark attorneys who advertise on TV that they can get anybody off will have no respect for compassion. They will try to dominate the courtroom and push the judge into a corner.
Plimpton is one of those guys who shoots to the top of his class no matter what the effort. He joined the Nevada National Guard right out of high school and earned his law degree from UNR on National Guard scholarships with no student loans at all. And after two deployments, earned the lofty rank of Brigadier General at the tender age of 47. He caught my attention at the Run A Mucca motorcycle rally last Memorial Day when he presented the Soldier of the Year award to Sergeant Prokaski. That general's uniform sparkled! The guy standing next to me said, "He's Man Pretty!". Todd Plimpton seems to be the genuine article, in everything he does.
When you talk to Plimpton, he's just the nicest important guy you ever met. But those kind of men remind me of, like when you go to Marine World. You see that 18 foot long Great White gliding along so serene. You could almost reach out and pet his fin. But you have to figure, he didn't get that big by being nice all the time. I think some hot-shot lawyer would get an education trying to push a Judge Plimpton.
I'd like to commend both candidates for running a clean, positive campaign. Judicial District 6 will be well served with either, but I have to go with Plimpton.
