Tony Laca, born Feb. 17, 1927, in Golconda, passed away Aug. 23, 2011, at home surrounded by his loved ones. He grew up in Lovelock. Tony served in the Navy Seabees during World War II. Upon his return he finished school in Lovelock and went on to UNR. He started his career for Nevada Bell in Lovelock. During his career with Nevada Bell he lived in Winnemucca, Ely, Las Vegas, and back to Reno where he has resided the last 40 years. Tony married the love of his life, Joan Helen Springer Laca, July 31, 1959.
Tony is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joan S. Laca, his mother, Antonia Barinaga Laca, his father Antonio Laca, and his brother John Laca. He is survived by his children, David Laca, Tony Laca, and Julia Andrews (Ken), grandchildren Derek, Michael, Nathan, Sarah, and Stephen Walton, Paul, Lyndi, and Marie Laca, and many dear friends.
A rosary was recited on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 W. Second Street, Reno. A funeral mass was held on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1138 Wright Street, Reno, followed by a gathering at the Laca residence to celebrate the love and life of Tony. In lieu of flowers kindly make a donation to a charity of your choice in Tony's name.
