The Lowry High School cheerleaders returned from their four-day camp at Boise State with a number of awards and three All-Americans.

The cheerleaders won a handful of first-place awards at the camp, which was held from June 24 - 27. The Buckaroos claimed the Herkie Award and the Top Performance Award, which includes chanting, cheer and stunts. Lowry also won the Spot Award and the Best of the Best Award.

The Herkie Award is given to the one squad that shows true team spirit, unity and leadership throughout the week. The top performance is given to teams that exemplify the best cheerleading technique, skill incorporation and performance ability.

"The Herkie is my personal favorite," said LHS cheerleading coach Diane Rice. "It exemplifies the true spirit of the team you have. It was a great four days of camp and the kids did great."

Lowry also won awards for advanced dancing, spotting and chanting.

Chelsea Baker, JD Martin and Ryan Rasmussen were named All-Americans. Just five All-American awards were handed out among the 100 campers and three of them went to Lowry.

As part of being named All-Americans the trio have the chance to perform at an event throughout the world.

Baker has decided to go to London, where she will perform during a New Year's Day parade over Christmas break. The New Year's Day parade in London is the biggest in the world. She will spend a week in England.

"I am really excited about making the trip," Baker said. "I have really never gone anywhere far from Nevada, so this will be something new for me. This was the best camp experience I have ever had. We have a good team this year and I am proud of them."

Baker took home two individual awards as well. She was named the top All-American out of the five that were chosen and she was chosen as the best captain.

She said she would like to cheer for the University of Oregon when she graduates. Baker will be a junior this year.

Martin and Rasmussen have decided to go on the Christmas Extravaganza at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The trip is Dec. 4-7 and they will be in the annual Christmas Day Parade that is shown on ABC.

Martin was selected to come back next year as an NCA counselor for next year's camp in Boise.

You can catch the Lowry cheerleaders in action throughout the school year, beginning on Thursday, Aug. 28, as the Buckaroos take on North Valleys in Reno in the opening football game of the season. The Buckaroos make their home debut on Friday, Sept. 12, against Truckee.[[In-content Ad]]
