Thomas Eugene Stoker, age 69, passed away June 20, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Reno.
As a U.S. Army Veteran, he had been a patient in the VA for the past several months with a lingering illness.
Born in Winnemucca on July 23, 1944, the son of Vernon and Lois Stoker, both Lovelock natives. Tom graduated in 1962 from Pershing County High School and later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada in 1969.
His was a life of great challenges. He never married, living in Salt Lake City, Utah, and San Francisco for a number of years before returning to Lovelock in 2002 to care for his ailing parents and Aunt Gertrude Church Young.
He loved to travel including Central and South America and much of western Europe. An avid genealogist, he accomplished research and collected ancestral photographs and memorabilia. He was a gifted writer, including periodic articles about Pershing County history for the local newspaper.
He served an honorable two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Uruguay in the early 1960s as the first representative of the Lovelock Church.
Tom is survived by his sister, Linda, and her husband, Chuck Walker, of Durango, Colo.; his half-brother, Eldon Stoker, and his wife Roberta of Beaver, Utah. Elden is the son of Vernon and Velna Stoker. He is also survived by nine nephews and nieces residing in Utah, Idaho and California.
There will be no services and his ashes will be placed in the family plot in the Lone Mountain Cemetery in Lovelock.[[In-content Ad]]
