WINNEMUCCA - This is Emil Holstron posing in his racing sulky. It was basically a seat positioned over an axle and two wheels. The traces had to be rigid to keep the thing balanced. Getting into it required agility and steady nerves. Driving it? I'm not sure most people, even then, would attempt it.

For its time it went very fast. Not as fast as the metal sulkies used in modern harness racing but fast for its time. This was the sports car of the Victorian age and, in my eyes, a much riskier form of transportation.

For safety's sake I hope Emil only used it on a track. Somehow, I doubt it. I bet he took it out regularly for a spin over the pothole-ridden, rocky tracks they called roads at the time.

A man of courage was Emil!
