The Cellar Bar, a Paradise Valley landmark -

WINNEMUCCA - This was a Paradise Valley landmark. Built out of stone with a vaulted ceiling, it was totally unique. It was the Cellar Bar. The man behind the bar is Joe Gartiez. His patron, standing at the bar, was long-time Paradise Valley rancher Pete Ferraro.

And a fancy bar it was, carved all from stone. It came from the Chicago World's Fair (1893). Who brought it from Chicago to grace a bar in Paradise Valley, Nev., I don't know (perhaps a reader does!).

The bar wasn't something you'd want to slump over or stumble into! Cracking your head or an elbow against its stone surface would sober you up in a hurry. In fact, the tables and chairs were the softest items in the place. The young man with the dog is Gartiez's nephew.
