Thank you Nevada firefighters

Thank you Nevada firefighters

Editor:

Last Thursday afternoon (Sept. 8), my sister and I pulled into a convenience store in Cedar Hill, Texas (just northwest of Austin), after a long, hot drive from Amarillo. We spotted a fire truck at the gas pump, and there were several weary-looking young men standing cleaning windows, pumping gas and performing various duties. On the back of one of the T-shirts a young man was wearing was "Winnemucca."

I asked the young man whether he was from Winnemucca, Nev., and he said yes. They were fighting wildfires in the surrounding area, and I know they were worn out and ready to go home. I told the clerk I would pay for whatever the young men were buying.

The one bottle of water and the one bottle of Power Aid came to a measly $7. That was nothing compared to the gratitude I felt for these young men who loaded up at the call of duty. It made me realize that the spirit those young men exhibited was the same spirit that keeps this nation great.

So the very least I can do is say, "Thank you." You will be in the thoughts and prayers of at least one more person in this big beautiful country we all love.

Sincerely,
