Thank you for your help

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Editor,

My name is Keith Neville and I am writing this letter for two reasons, most importantly I would like to thank the wonderful people in and around Lovelock for helping me when I was in involved in a horrible scary experience on Interstate 80 on Jan. 2.

I was driving West at about 3 p.m. when a wide load truck traveling West passed me going at a high rate of speed. I guess he cared only to get where he was going as he never stopped to help me when he saw that I was in trouble when my second trailer started swaying from side to side in his lane the second he passed, ejecting my UTV and several gas cans into his lane.

I could do nothing as it happened so fast. After I stopped, many wonderful people assisted me in getting both lanes cleared of gas cans, my UTV and many other items I was taking home from my hunting trip near Battle Mountain.

A passerby asked if she could call 911, a Pershing County deputy arrived and calmed me down, a NDOT crew stopped and helped, two more men appeared and helped with warning signs, which they left with me, and more men stopped and helped right my UTV while the deputy pulled my Gator off the highway.

Without all these wonderful people, something more tragic could have happened as removing all the debris saved possible injury to people traveling by. Then the highway patrol got there and they were very courteous and helpful. They made sure everything was done properly, including checking my license and registration. Not one person made me feel uncomfortable. I wish I knew everyone's name and address so I could thank you more personally. Thank you all very much!

The second part of this letter is addressed to our legislature; there should be some way to slow those big trucks down so people like me don't get in situations like this. This happens to every person pulling a trailer on the interstate. Big trucks going at a high rate of speed always suck you and your trailer into their lane when they pass at 75 miles per hour. I am not advocating that we move to California but this does not happen when big wide trucks and trailers are always in the right lane and required to travel slower.

Again, I would like to thank all the wonderful people in and around Lovelock that saved me and others from having something happen that could have injured or killed people on Interstate 80.
