Taco Bell permit approved by planners

Taco Bell received approval Thursday for a special use permit from the Humboldt County Regional Planning Commission to open a restaurant at 3475 Construction Way. The lot is located next to Dotty's at the corner of Jacks Road and Construction Way and adjacent to the Walmart parking lot.

Rubicon Design Group LLC of Reno represented Taco Bell at the planning board meeting. The company was required to obtain a special use permit because the property is located within the M-1 industrial zoning district.

According to documents filed with the planning department, the lot is owned by the Walmart Real Estate Business Trust.

Taco Bell's representative did not give an indication of when construction would begin or when the restaurant would open. The special use permit gives the applicant one year to build unless other arrangements are made, planning officials said.

The restaurant will be 2,500 square feet in size and include a drive-thru window. The company plans to operate the business 24 hours a day.
