The Lowry High School swim team took a break from its dual meets last Saturday, by taking part in the Northern Nevada Invitational in Reno. The meet included a number of Division I squads in McQueen, Spanish Springs, Manogue and Reed.

"It was a long meet and you could see us getting tired at the end," said LHS coach Mike Owens. "Overall, we swam well, but I found out we still have work to do. We got a chance to see South Tahoe and they are a good team. It's going to be a challenge for us next week and we have to be ready to go."

Kelsea Perkinson paced the Lady Bucks with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 21.94 seconds. Sage Ridge's Emily Adams won the event at 1:21.56. The sophomore was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at 28.78.

Emma Kracaw placed ninth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 29.53 and Kenzie Maddox and Katlyn Barnes were 12th and 25th in the same event at 29.75 and 31.85, respectively. Maddox was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:06.75, which was five seconds better than her seed time. Barnes was 19th in the 100 freestyle at 1:13.13.

On the boys side, Christian Gray finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.38 and 11th in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.16. Wyatt Lester (1:13.09) and Garret Gray (1:14.69) were fifth and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. Lester took more than four seconds off his seed time. Gray added an 11th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:36.97.

Jiovanni Madrid tied for sixth in the 100-yard freestyle at 59.63, taking off nearly 10 seconds off his seed time and Leo Avila was eighth at 1:00.41. In addition, Avila tied for seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.78 and Madrid was 16th in the 50 at 26.57. Tristen Waller turned in a seventh-place outing in the 200-yard freestyle with as time of 2:22.69 and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:03.03.

Matthew Jock placed 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:24.91, which was six seconds better than his seed time and the junior was 13th in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.31. Liam Walls (1:05.75), J.R. Perkinson (1:05.91) and Jacob Hales (1:06.82) were 17th, 19th and 21st in the 100-yard freestyle. Hales also placed 20th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.58.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay of Christian Gray, Lester, Jock and Avila were second at 1:43.56. McQueen won the race at 1:40.47.

The meet also featured a JV division, with Cheyanna Furnare winning 200-yard freestyle for the Lady Bucks at 2:47.07. The sophomore placed ninth in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.03. Bridget Cervantes (1"18.48) and Cherice Armstrong (1:18.81) were fifth and sixth in the 100-yards freestyle, while Aimee Brandon, Brooklyn Backus and Abby Flores were 10th, 11th and 12th. Brandon (42,77), Backus (43.62) and Alexandra Ziemer (44.33) were sixth, seventh and eighth in the 50-yard backstroke. Nakiya Flores added an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke at 49.19 and Rebekah Goldblatt was 12th in the 50 breaststroke in a time of 56.75.

Chris Franco, Nicholas Maddox, Joseph Postinino and Marcus Molina led the Buckaroo boys to the victory in the 100-yard medley relay at the JV level in a time of 1:05.86. At he individual level, Franco (39.13), Ian Maher (40.53) and Postinino (41.72), were second, third and fifth in the 50-yard backstroke.

Molina was third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.24 and Marcos Duran was seventh in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 46.63.

Lowry is off this weekend and closes out the regular season on May 9 against South Tahoe at 2 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
