Suspect who struck officer with vehicle signs plea deal

WINNEMUCCA - Jared Alan Holm, 26, pleaded guilty to three charges in Sixth Judicial District Court Tuesday stemming from several incidents, including one in which he is accused of striking an officer with a motor vehicle.

Holm pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.

He is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 4 at 9 a.m. and could potentially face up to 15 years in prison.

Holm was arrested last March on suspicion of multiple meth-related charges after an investigation into a property crimes case, according to a Humboldt County Sheriff's news release at the time. He was found to have a pair of brass knuckles and four baggies of suspected methamphetamine in his possession at the time.

Holm was arrested again in June for possession of a stolen vehicle. Several months later, on Aug. 16, Winnemucca Police officers who were aware that Holm had two warrants for failure to appear spotted him exiting the Winnemucca Inn.

Upon seeing the officers, Holm got into a vehicle and attempted to drive away, according to a WPD news release at the time. An officer attempted to stop Holm, but Holm struck the officer with the vehicle. During the encounter, officers discharged weapons, striking Holm.

Holm continued at a high rate of speed to elude officers, according to the news release. He then traveled to the Gold County Inn parking lot, struck a pillar and crashed into a vehicle on the lot.

Holm then left the scene and continued to flee on foot. He crossed Fourth Street and was discovered hiding behind a small fence on the property at Bank of America, the news release said.

He was arrested and transported to Humboldt General Hospital and later to Renown for follow-up treatment for a non-life threatening injury. No officers were injured during the incident.

Holm originally pleaded not guilty to possession of a controlled substance for sale; however, he changed his plea per the global resolution presented in court Tuesday and the trial date for that case was vacated.

The potential sentencing for each charge is: one to four years and up to $5,000 for possession of a controlled substance, one to five years and up to $10,000 for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and one to six years and up to $5,000 for assault with a deadly weapon. Probation is a potential for each charge and the sentences can run concurrent or consecutive.

Holm is being held at the Humboldt County Detention Center on $57,224 bail.[[In-content Ad]]
