A surprise donation from the Community Foundation of Western Nevada has helped officials from the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice breathe a little easier.
"As a non-profit organization, finding adequate funding can be daunting," said Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith. "It seems we're always looking at where we can get the needed funding so we can help one more person and provide support to one more family."
Smith said that's why the award from the foundation came as such an unbelievable blessing.
"This group has helped us several times over the years," said Smith, "and we are just so grateful for the caring and responsible way in which they look at our needs and decide that we are a good fit with their organization."
The Community Foundation of Western Nevada was established in 1998 as a Nevada nonprofit 501(c) 3 corporation.
Since that time, the foundation has distributed over $65 million in grants and scholarships from over 200 charitable funds to meet community needs in western Nevada, including education, social services, health, arts and culture, and the environment.
Smith said this particular $1,000 donation came from the group's Senior Support Fund and is designated for general use.
"This donation was just a wonderful surprise," said Smith. "We sincerely thank the Community Foundation of Western Nevada for their kindness."
