Surprise donation for Frugal Flamingo

Last month, the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store got a welcome surprise.

The second-hand shop, operated by the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, received multiple boxes of new household décor from CB Brown Co., Inc.

Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith said the new items didn't last long on store shelves.

"The items were beautiful, modern and unique in style," she said. "Our customers really took advantage of these great bargains."

Smith said as a nonprofit organization, the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is totally dependent on the Frugal Flamingo's income to carry out its mission of honoring and supporting individuals in the Humboldt County community who are suffering from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness. All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services.

"So when we receive a donation like that, which we can then turn around and sell for a nice profit, it just makes us feel so thankful," she said.

She added, "This is one more generous donation to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our patients. We sincerely thank CB Brown Co. for their kindness in thinking of us."
