Summer conditioning wraps up this week for Lowry football

Practice for fall season starts Aug. 12

WINNEMUCCA - Summer conditioning is entering its final week for those interested in playing for the Lowry High School football team this fall.

The final two days of summer conditioning will be Wednesday and Thursday at the high school from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

As part of the heat acclimation period initiated by the NIAA , Lowry will have heat acclimation practices from Monday, Aug. 12, through Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

First official team practices (double days) starts Thursday, Aug. 15. The first practice is 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. and the second is 10 a.m. - noon. Afternoon practices begin Thursday, Aug. 22, at 3:30 p.m.

The first three days of practice will be in shorts, helmets and T-shirts. Full contact drills begin on Monday, Aug. 19.

All freshmen and junior must have a new physical exam. All sophomores and seniors must have a physical exam on file at Lowry High School.

All required paperwork must be submitted in order to be allowed to try out. That includes a physical exam form, NIAA concussion prevention form, NIAA alcohol/tobacco/drug policy form and parental permission form.

The Buckaroos will host a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. against Reno, and Elko and Pershing County high schools.

Lowry opens the regular season in Winnemucca against Battle Mountain on Friday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m., followed by a home game against Truckee, the four-time defending Division I-A state champion, on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.

The game with the Wolverines will be the Division 1-A North opener for the Buckaroos.

Lowry is coming off its best season in school history going 10-2 in 2012 and reaching the semifinals of the Division I-A state playoffs for the third consecutive season.

All of the other fall sports (volleyball, girls golf, girls and boys cross country and girls and boys soccer) at Lowry get underway on Saturday, Aug. 17.
