BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Mining Foundation, in conjunction with Battle Mountain High School, presented its Mine Incentive Awards May 20.
These awards are presented by Newmont, Goldcorp and Barrick corporations and this year exceeded $10,900. Students receive awards for exemplary scholastic achievement, perfect attendance and class achievement by department.
Shar Peterson, with Newmont Mining Corp., spoke on behalf of Linda Lauritzen, with Goldcorp - Marigold, and Melanie Lawson, with Barrick Mining Corp., representing the Mining Foundation set up to provide these awards.
She spoke of selecting students based on their scholastic achievements as well as positive contributions to school and community.
There were many students recognized, including Mark Young who was recognized for his perfect attendance for all four years of high school.[[In-content Ad]]
