Fifth graders in MaryJo Dufurrena's class at French Ford Middle School spent the previous school year interviewing and socializing with Harmony Manor residents for their book project. The result is a charming book, "Retrospect and Thoughts of Mrs. Dufurrena's Class and Harmony Manor Residents." Dufurrena said the project was made possible through a grant from Newmont Mining and the Humboldt County School District. Gini Cunningham helped put the book together and get it published, she said. Dufurrena said the class visited Harmony Manor, an assisted-living facility, one day every month to gather material for the book and interact with Manor residents. "We wanted the kids to walk away with some kind of life lesson that the residents taught them," Dufurrena said.[[In-content Ad]]
