Stremler finishes eighth in saddle bronc, Hoenck 11th in cutting at National High School Finals Rodeo

WINNEMUCCA - After nearly 10 months, the rodeo season came to an end Saturday night for the Humboldt County Rodeo Club, with two members finishing in the top 11 at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo.

Cole Stremler placed eighth overall in the saddle bronc riding with 113 points. Stremler tied for first in his second performance on Thursday night with 64 points and was eighth after the second go-around was complete. Stremler did not record a score in the short go-around on Saturday night and was still able to place eighth.

Bobby Hoenck turned in an 11th-place finish in the boys cutting with 639.50 points. Hoenck finished second in his Thursday night performance with 214.5 points, which turned out to be good enough for sixth in the second go-around. In the short go on Saturday night, Hoenck scored 211 points to place 20th. His three-round average put him in 11th place.

Hoenck also competed in the bareback riding and did not record a score in either performance, as well as the steer wrestling, where he timed in at 11.85 in the first performance but did not have a time in the second performance.

Sam Harper was 12th in the saddle bronc with 51 points after the first performance but did not stay on for the full eight seconds in the second performance and did not make the short go that featured the top 20 riders. In addition, Harper took part in the bull riding and did not record a score in either performance.

Cole Hatcher did not record a score in his performances of the saddle bronc and Josh Harrer, along with fellow roper Hank Filippini, had no times in both performances of team roping.

Texas won the team championship with 8,373 points, Oklahoma was second at 6,002 and California was third at 5,845. Nevada was sixth with 4,642 points.

For the second consecutive year, Garrett Smith from Rexburg, Idaho, was the all-around cowboy with 1,345 points. Clayton Biglow from Clements, Calif., was second at 1,005 and Bryce Howe (965) from Crossroads, N.M., was third. Minden's Wyatt Denny was seventh with 695 points and was the highest Nevada finisher.

Mia Manzanares of Opelousas, La., was crowned the all-around cowgirl with 900 points. Georgia Diez (800) from Phoenix, Ariz., was second and Makayla Boots (785) of St. Anthony, Idaho, placed third. Fallon's Rachel Hendrix was the highest Nevada placer in sixth with 610 points.

Marcus Theriot of Poplar, Miss., and Manzanares, were named the all-around rookie cowboy and cowgirl, respectively.
