LOVELOCK - Renowned watercolorist Jerry Stitt A.W.S./N.W.S. will be the guest teacher at a watercolor workshop presented by the Star Peak Arts Retreat Center of Imlay. The workshop will take place May 11 - 13 in Unionville at the Old Pioneer Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Center Director/Owner Jerry Ellen Cannizzaro said she is very happy that Stitt had accepted the invitation to teach the workshop.
Stitt resides in Sausalito, Calif., and has a studio there where he conducts classes and paints every day. He said he is looking forward to the workshop in Unionville.
"I like the challenge of painting different places. I'm sure there is a lot of beautiful scenery there. I expect it will be a pleasant change from the California oceanside," Stitt said.
"Painting isn't good because it looks like something, painting is good because it feels like something," he added.
Stitt is an elected member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. He was a United States Navy combat artist and has paintings in the Pentagon as well as in the private collections of numerous world leaders.
A gallery of Stitt's works can be found on his website, www.jerrystittaws.com.
"We are especially lucky to have Jerry come here because he usually charges $600 to teach a workshop," Cannizzaro said.
Stitt said that he was happy to do the workshop as a tribute to the work that Cannizzaro has been doing in the local community.
The cost of the three-day workshop is $150, which includes a Saturday evening dinner and entertainment by professional pianist Rick Baldwin.
The classes will take place on the Sun Porch of the historic 1860 Hadley-Bonnefield House on the Old Pioneer Garden Inn property. Instruction will begin around 10 a.m. each morning after an Old Pioneer Garden breakfast, for those who choose to stay at the Inn, Cannizzaro said. The Saturday evening dinner is for all attending the workshop regardless of if they stay at the Inn or not, she added.
Cannizzaro can be contacted by e-mail, jerry.ellen@yahoo.com, or by phone at (775) 321-6516 or (415) 606-4831 for more information or to book a place at the workshop.
