BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The St. John Bosco Christmas Bazaar will be held Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the St. John Bosco Hall at 384 Reese St.
The event will feature craft booths, homemade baked goodies and raffle prizes. The bazaar is being hosted by the church's Altar Society and all of the money raised from the event will go toward the group to be spent on church and community projects, said Laurie Pluemer, president of the Altar Society.
"We just hope that we'll have good participation this year," Pluemer said. "Please come and join us. It'll be a great day for Christmas shopping."
Booths for the bazaar have sold out. There are approximately 30 booths that include homemade items such as candles, quilted items, soaps, jewelry, gift baskets, wood crafts, baked goods, scarves, rustic furniture and crocheted and knitted items.
Some of the vendors include Avon and Scentsy Candles. Sober Seniors will be selling Christmas wreaths and Pete's Chorizos, Pluemer said.
The Altar Society will have a baked goods booth at the event where members will be selling all kinds of desserts from Christmas cookies to peanut brittle. Members will also have white elephant items for sale. The Quilt Guild and the Senior Center will have booths at the event as well.
The Altar Society will also be holding raffles that includes items such as a nativity scene, a large stuffed stocking, gas cards, a stained glass piece and a large stuffed toy. The prizes were donated to the Altar Society or purchased by members of the group, Pluemer said. Anyone who would like to donate a prize, can call the church at (775) 635-2576.
Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. They can be purchased at the event or ahead of time from any Altar Society member. The drawings will be held at the event at 3 p.m. and winners do not have to be present.
Members of the Altar Society will be selling chili, clam chowder and chicken noodle soup for $4 a bowl. It will be accompanied by cornbread, crackers or French bread.
St. John Bosco's bazaar is an annual event that has been going on for around 30 years. It is one of two annual fundraisers held by the Altar Society. The other fundraiser is the St. Patrick's Day spaghetti feed.
Altar Society members take care of the church upkeep and offer church support as well as volunteer their time, efforts and resources for service projects throughout the community.
