Residents of Imlay and Rye Patch woke up Monday morning to a surprise. What started off as evening rain turned into snow at some point during the night.

"It was a big old surprise. I didn't want to see it. I want it to warm up already," said Imlay resident Amanda Storey.

Storey estimated a couple of inches of the white stuff was outside her door when she woke up Monday morning.

NOAA weather services in Reno said they have no way of knowing how much snow was dropped that night due to a lack of weather spotters in the area.

"We really need some spotters out in that area," NOAA Meteorologist Zach Tolby said.

Tolby referred would-be spotters to sign up for weather spotter training on the NOAA website www.wrh.noaa.gov/rev/spotter/spotter.php.

"If we can get enough interest in that area we would come out and do some training," he said.

To sign up just go to the NOAA webpage and scroll down to the portion that asks the question 'How do I become a SkyWarn weather spotter' and email Kathrine Hohmann, a link to her email is provide on the page.
