Soup and sandwiches will be served next week at the Pleasant Senior Center while updates to the kitchen continue. The dining room at the center has been closed since Aug. 15, and will re-open with limited seating and a limited menu on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Assorted soups and sandwiches will be served daily.
Seating will be limited to eight tables which will accommodate 64 diners. Usually, the center has space for 16 tables and about 128 people.
Patricia Tindall, center director, said she was hopeful the center would be operational by Monday, Oct. 6, but that date was tentative based on the construction schedule.
The kitchen has been renovated with a walk-in freezer and fridge, and all the utilities, such as water and electric, have upgraded and enlarged to accommodate the enlarged capacity of the center. Additionally, a parking garage was built for the Meals-on-Wheels trucks.
During the kitchen renovation, Meals-on-Wheels deliveries are still being made, and center staff have been working in their offices.
Because the dining room, welcome and craft areas are being used to store the new kitchen equipment, the center will not have computers, television, exercise or the library until early in October.
The Pleasant Senior Center sent out fliers and telephoned clients to notify them of the disruptions and limited services. A list of 13 area restaurants providing senior discounts was included on the flyers to those interested in dining-out options.
